Our Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) service is a free NHS service available to women aged 16-64 who can make an appointment to see our Independent Prescribing pharmacist who can prescribe medication if necessary to treat the condition.

What is a UTI?

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are one of the most common bacterial infections seen in female patients, with over 40 per cent of women likely to suffer from one in their lifetime.

Symptoms of a UTI include:

  • Burning or stinging sensation on passing urine
  • Needing to pass urine frequently or urgently
  • Cloudy urine
  • Passing small amounts of urine often

Causes of UTIs

Urinary Tract Infections are typically caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract. Some common risk factors for UTIs include:

– Female anatomy

– Sexual activity

– Urinary tract abnormalities

– Weakened immune system

– Use of certain types of birth control
