The discomfort of a sore throat can disrupt your routine. At Cyncoed Pharmacy, our Sore Throat Test and Treat service allows patients* to be seen by an accredited pharmacist who is equipped to assist, provide guidance and necessary treatments for a speedy recovery. This may involve the pharmacist taking a swab of your throat if appropriate, to help identify Strep A infection. This is an NHS service and saves the need for a GP appointment.
*Patient must be 6 years old or over.
It is important to note that 9 out of 10 sore throat cases are caused by viral infections and therefore cannot be treated with antibiotics. However, following a consultation and assessment by the pharmacist, we can supply paracetamol and/or ibuprofen if required.

At Cyncoed Pharmacy, we offer NHS flu jabs to people aged 18 years and over who are eligible to receive the vaccinations for FREE. The free NHS flu jab for the 2023/2024 flu season is eligible in Wales for:
If you do not qualify for a free NHS flu jab we can still provide you with a private flu vaccination. The price of a private flu vaccination 2023/2024 is £20.
There are only a few exceptions as to who shouldn’t get the flu vaccination:
If you are currently unwell with a fever, you should delay getting the flu jab.
If you have an egg allergy, speak to one of our pharmacists before getting the vaccination.
